Hi Alex.

Can your dealer handle a data recovery situation where the phone is not booting up? I strongly suggest that that in the first instance in order to get the data safely on to the memory card, you approach a qualified Nokia service centre who will be able to use special diagnostic functions and features not necessarily available to the public. I know for instance that there is a safe mode in the Nokia firmware not unlike windows, where all applications excepting those essential system functions are not loaded. This will allow those all important contacts to be backed up. Of course, its all down to you and Carol and I wish you both the best of luck, but in my opinion, where serious data could be lost, a Nokia service centre would be in a better position to rescue your valued and valuable data.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Hi Ibrahim,

Thank you for your constructive comments.

I'm sorry to say that Carol hasn't backed up anything to the
MMC, but we're considering taking the phone to the dealer
from whom it was purchased, as, in my opinion, this might be
easier than taking it to a Nokia service centre, as although
I could reinstall Talks myself, we may need to reinstall
KNFB Reader and we've had problems when it comes to that
program which would not apply if we took Carol's phone to
the dealer from whom she purchased it.

I think once we've sorted the phone, I'll make sure that the
contacts and other important data are backed up to the MMC.

Alexander Shannon
