Alex here is what you have asked. I am a novice at this having only been a user since June and still have a lot to learn. Anyone on the list please feel free to correct anything I have told Alex but all I can say is it worked for me.

I decided what tune I wanted to have as a ring tone. It was on my computer as MP3 file. I then transferred it to my phone as follows and from there went to set ring tone (see below) and selected it.

Eleanor now read on for instructions.

Transferring Data from Computer to N95

Install Nokia PC suite on to your computer. The version I am using is 6.82.22.0. There is a later version available but, I find this version quite accessible with jaws. Attach your phone to the computer using the USB cable.PC suite will start installing the driver for your phone. This could take up to 5 minutes so, it is best to just let the computer work away on its own. When this has finished, you should launch PC suite from the desktop. Now, as I am using jaws, I press insert and page down and it tells me that "nokia e51 connected via USB". This message is located towards the bottom of the screen.

1.. Find the ring tone and message alert that you want to use and copy them to the clipboard. 2.. Go to windows explorer and under the list of drives, you should see one that says nokia n95. Select this.
3.. From the list of 2 folders, phone memory and memory card.
 4.. Choose phone memory.
5.. Select the folder called Data.
6.. Selects the folder called Sounds.
7.. In this folder, choose "digital". Paste the files into this folder.
8.. Disconnect the phone. Now when you go to profiles on your phone, the ring tone and message alert should be available for you to use.

 Choosing a Ring Tone

1. go into your menu.

2. arrow to tools and press select.

3. arrow to profiles and press select.

4. arrow to general and press key one.

4. arrow to personalise and press select.

5. arrow to ring tone and press select.

at this point you need to mute talks, as the sound of talks will prevent the phone from playing the ring tone you choose.

until you get used to talks, i'd suggest you do this with someone sighted close by.

mute talks by pressing the talks key followed by the edit key, which is at the right hand side of the long bar where the talks key is located.

6. press select again to bring up your list of tones.

when in your list of tones. up/down arrow through them and select the one you want. then press select to save it.

7. once done. you will need to unmute talks again, by pressing the talks key followed by the right hand part of the long bar again.

Interesting what you say there Paul but I have one problem with the N95 and that is that putting on my own ring tone, an mp3 file, it is not as loud as the ring tones on the phone itself which is disappointing. Other than that
the minute I saw the N95 I knew it would be good and the number pad is
excellent. Like you say the sound from the speakers is amazing too. There
is no camera cover on the black N95. It has not given me a problem. In
fact my niece who is not visually impaired says the camera on it is
excellent.

Yes, I sulk with a smile. I like to think my glass is at least half full.

Yes the Nokia N96 does feel very tacky and cheap.

The buttons are absolutely level with the body of the phone and you only
know they are there at all when you start to press them which is crazy.

The sound didn't seem so good: When I first took the N95 out of the box
and
played with the ring tones and then, my own music, I was really impressed
with the stereo separation even with the speakers being so small and so
close together with only the width of the phone to separate them.

On the N96, I found it quite difficult to determine which way round the
phone (width or length) had to be turned to hear the stereo sound at all.

The camera lens doesn't even have a cover on it unlike the N95.

The sighted guy I work with said that he thought Nokia had really dropped
the ball with the N96.

I may well give Nokia a call and see what they say about access.

Hi Paul,

Sulking with a smile eh? <Smile>.

I agree with you about the N96 though, it is a monster phone for features,
but the build quality is crap. It's like Nokia have gone back in a time
machine. Cheap, plastic and tacky.

All the best

Steve

I have recently unlocked my Nokia N95 too.

I am still contracted to Vodafone but now have the added benefit of trying
SIM cards from other networks to see if any of them have better coverage
than Vodafone does in my area.

Sadly, non of them do but also, non of them including Vodafone have very
good 3G or 3.5G coverage either.

So, I have the phone unlocked for some time down the road when we have
something better than the coverage we do here now and the first provider
to
improve said coverage and a better phone than the N95 (not counting the
N96
as, the buttons on it not being at all easy to navigate with no sight),
gets
my custom.

...But for now, on most counts regarding service providers, I am sulking
<smile>!

In my humble opinion Scot, no there would be no problem. I got my N95
from
Vodafone and had it unlocked the day I got it. Talks still worked
perfectly
with the Vodafone card. Then I put in my Irish 02 SIM and used the phone
just fine in Ireland. Strange thing though when I came back and put in my
Vodafone card and whenever now I have to phone Vodafone Customer Services
the recorded message says they are unable to recognize my number but to
hold
on and my enquiry will be dealt with. Despite not being able to recognize
my number which I find very strange with their up-to-date equipment, they
do
recognize my PIN no problem. One day when I had time to sit on the phone,

I
questioned this inability to recognize my number and got put through to
someone eventually they said it was a problem with their system and then I
challenged that. Finally they said 'you have your phone from abroad' and
I
said 'No I got it in a contract from you'. They then fixed the problem
and
I was not getting this message but I have noticed recently when I call it
has started saying this again. It is not a problem to me and to answer
your
question, Talks worked just fine when I was in Ireland and I look forward
to
using my N95 there again.

Hi folks. Would there be any probs with talks on an 8 gig N95, that
had been on vodaphone, and then unlocked.

And then had a T mobile sim put in it?

 Thanks Scott.
