Thanks for that, I will try and set it up later when I go home. In the
meantime, I am trying to do the same for a friend who is on O2, does anyone
know what the outgoing server for O2 should be? Or is it the same as the
Vodafone one with the word O2 replacing Vodafone?

Hi Barbara.
You will probably need to set up an account relating to the account you have
on your PC.
To find all this email stuff go to messages, choose settings and then email.
use your BT openworld pop server (the server you set up as incoming server
on email client on your PC)) with the password you use in your email client
.
When you send messages you should be able to do this through Vodafone.
I think the outgoing mail server should be send.vodafone.net but you can
look for this on your phone as a vodafone account will probably already
exist.

Sorry if this is a stupid question.
I am using the Nokia 3230 with Talks on Vodafone. If I want to use the Email
facility, do I need to set up an Email address through Vodafone or can I use
my BTopenworld Email? If so, can someone give me any advice about what
options to select when setting up my mailbox? Have tried, but to no avail.
