Hi all,
I wanted to bring to your attention that there exists a local group (of what
I will describe as knee-jerk tea-party conservatives) going by the name of
Citizens for Responsible Spending. They include such prominent local names
as Devmo Moore, Barney Bishop, and Penny Herman.
Their primary goal is to reduce city property taxes and reduce city
services. One of the specifically named city services they want reduced is
StarMetro.
So, since people who are disabled tend to depend upon city services, I
thought an announcement urging you to contact your city commission to alert
them that you depend upon city services and wish to keep them at current
levels (if not increased) was appropriate for TABI.
Allison and I are spending some time this weekend constructing our letter to
the commission, letting them know that we appreciate all they've done for
Tallahassee, and how it's our belief that the improvements to Tallahassee
can be directly tied to the awards and recommendations for a place to raise
children, a place to live, and a place to retire, which it has received over
the last 5 years or so.
It's our belief that a lot of these improvements are directly attributable
to having a "leadership" mayor position, and this is also something the CRS
group wishes to remove. If you'd like to experience some of the recent
amazing improvements Tallahassee has to show off, just attend one of the
events which now seem to be constantly taking place at Cascades Park.
