Congrats Sila! I'm so glad to hear about your promotion! It is a great way to start the new year! Back in the fall I applied for a job with the Department of Revenue. As many of you know, I already work for them so already have some Child Support Enforcement knowledge. Any way, I was granted something called a Skills Verification Test (SVT.) I was allowed to take the test in my office using my WindowEyes screen reader and CCTV. I passed and then was granted an interview. During the interview I had to give a Power Point presentation. That was scary but I tell you, I wouldn't give any thing for my braille skills. I made notes regarding the key points and was able to maintain eye contact or at least look directly at my audience. Any way, to make a long story short, at the end of October I received a promotion. DOR has always been above and beyond for me but, I know of two others with a visual disability who have applied for jobs in their call center with not much success so it's a mixed bag. I am fortunate to have some sight and I do advocate. However, there's a fine line between too much and not enough. Thanks for letting me share. Hope all have a great 2010!
