Hi there, Sorry for the delay.

1. What went well or what was your favorite part?
I must say, I impressed myself seating people. It was a learning experience for me and I am grateful that I was asked to help by doing this job. The numbers on the backs of chairs at 6:00 and 9:00 is a wonderful idea and I am impressed by the thought and organization you all put into helping us seaters to keep our orientation. Folks trickled in, which caused the seating process to run behind but in some ways this is better as I had a large group get tangled up in the heavy door on the left side. I was worried about inadvertently knocking someone's drink that they carried from down stairs over but thankfully, it didn't happen.

2. What could go better, or how can we improve next year’s 6th Annual Paula Bailey Dining in the Dark? Consider putting table number braille tags upside down on the backs of the chairs. This way the seaters could read the numbers with one hand and not have to put down their cane, read the number and do a juggling act. No good ideas for folks placing their coats on the backs of the chairs though except to just ask "what table number is this?" Only other thing that comes to mind is to give us an opportunity to practice in the "real" dark ahead of time without the swat guys kneeling on the floor.

3. Any funny or insightful moments you want to share? We’d love to hear about what you experienced and what you learned! I was nervous as you might imagine and wanted to practice one last time in the dark. I was almost to the podium when I encountered a swat guy on his knees on the floor adjusting something with the night goggles. I wacked him with my cane. It startled both of us and I gave up the practicing at that point. Oh yes, the rope in the middle was my life line - very much appreciated!!!

Congratulations on another successful DID event!!!

Sila

Greeting from the Lighthouse!

THANK YOU!
Thank you so much to all of the guests, volunteers, staff and donors
who made the 2009 Dining in the Dark event a huge success this past
Sunday!

So far the event has raised $32,000 (approximately $1,400 from baskets
alone!) and some checks are still coming in the mail. We had
approximately 365 folks participate and 19 SWAT Team members – the
most ever! The Lighthouse is proud to announce the winner of the Paula
Bailey Inspirational Community Member Award is Michael Elliott –
congratulations!
