TABI members, The Sales Tax funds is divided into four 'pots' of money: City, County, General, and Economic Development. The bulk of the money is in the General Pot. The City and County get equal portions of the remaining funds with 12% going to Economic Development. StarMetro has 2 projects in the list. One is in the General Pot. The other is in the City Pot. In the General Pot, StarMetro should receive $12.2 million for stop upgrades. About 1/3 will go towards constructing SuperStops (off-the street transfer points) where multiple routes currently or could potentially intersect. We are planning placing one in each quadrant. The remaining funds will be used to make every stop ADA compliant with amenities. In the City Pot, StarMetro should receive $25 million to reconstruct C.K. Steele Plaza. While transit will be a key function of C.K. Steele Plaza, early discussions has the funds used to create a multi-story mixed use building with possibly the StarMetro administrative functions on the first floor. Other improvements could include technology upgrades to the Plaza, a ground floor restaurant, and other transit supportive uses. The Lynx terminal in downtown Orlando is a good example of what could be constructed at the Plaza. Regardless of what happens, the importance of Rev. Steele and the bus boycott will be preserved. If the Sales Tax extension is approved, we will keep you informed as these projects move forward. Brian S.
