Well, it is all water under the bridge so to speak now and I say to prevent this from happening again I would go to the papers and radio and such and also talk to the vet or ever who owns the business and see if there can be some rules place on a plat or something at the front door about aggressive dogs. I also would seek legal advice. I could not get the results I needed I would look for a different vet! I know there is a couple on this list that has been put out that does mobile service! That they will come to you instead of you coming to them. Now this being said myself would have taken care of it myself. I always have and have since I was a boy carried a knife and I will use it if needed to defend myself and my property. I am also aCCW ( concealed weapon holder ) and would not even think of using it but in the last resort! But in this case I might have been force to use it. Not on the owner but the dog yes. I would not wanted to but extreme things call for extreme doings. But like I say it is all water under the bridge and I would either let it die or go after this man tooth and nail. I would start by seeking me legal cancel . JMT ! Thank God your screams were audible enough to have been heard! ----- Original Message ----- From: Norine Labitzke <mailto:norine@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: tabi@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, June 10, 2011 3:28 PM Subject: [tabi] Re: Guide Dog Attack Hi to everyone, I know I don't contribute much to this list but do lurk around a lot. I wanted all the guide dog people to know what happened to Santino and me yesterday. It is a bad story but Santino and I are both ok. I took Santino to the vet for his annual checkup and shots. While we were waiting for Dial-A-Ride in the waiting room a man came in to pick up his pit bull (or part pit bull). The dog pulled away from the man, raced across the room to Santino who was lying calmly beside my chair and viciously attacked Santino. The barking and my screams brought instant help. I could feel that the attack dog had picked Santino up off his feet and was flinging him around; then he nailed Santino on his back to the floor. Three vet techs had a difficult time getting the dogs jaws open so Santino would be released. One vet witnessed most of this and as soon as Santino was released took him back to check him. Praise God, the attack dog had latched onto Santino's harness right at his throat. Santino had no wounds; the vet was shocked, could hardly believe it; but he and I were and are a very shook up pair after all that. While Santino was being checked the man took his dog and left - he never said a word. Dial-A-Ride came and the driver saw the man and dog, and said he had no control of the dog and barely got him into his vehicle. I called GDB to report this and ask for advice and they said I should file a police and animal control report. The vet's office contacted Animal Control for information; however they did not file a report. They checked Fl. statutes and told me the attack dogs owner would be responsible for all costs if Santino needed any retraining. The police tried to talk me out of filing a report saying it was not a crime; the officer who did come to take the report kind of gave the impression it was a nuciance, and did give it an "incident report." Today I called Tallahassee Animal Control to inquire if a report had been filed. The woman I talked with said she was aware of the call yesterday; she was reluctant to say if a report had or had not been filed. I was insistent; she then started to tell me what the animal control laws are; I had just read them online, and pointed out to her there were several violations. She then agreed to refer it. She called me later and said she had contacted the vet for name and address of the owner; the address was in the county so it was out of there jurisdiction; I kept pushing and she reluctantly agreed to refer it to Leon Co Animal Control, which she did. A deputy came to the house very soon after the referral and was going investigate and cite the owner. I have no doubt Leon Co. will follow up. This is all I want. I want the owners, who later called the vet and said the dog had never done anything like this before, to know there dog is a danger; I want children and other animals protected from him. Santino worked pretty well today; he is a little timid; we did not encounter any other dogs. GDB advised me to take him back to the vets office several times next week and give lots of praise and rewards so he does not associate going to the vet with the trauma. I am anxious to see how he does the next time we meet a stranger dog; I am sure we will have lots of work to do before he is back to normal. Any further thoughts or suggestions from any of you would be appreciated. "Currently, customers must purchase fare cards at C.K. Steele Plaza or StarMetro's main offices off of Appleyard Drive; in addition, customers must have cash to purchase that fare card," said Ron Garrison, executive director of StarMetro. "By employing this new application, we will make purchasing StarMetro fare more convenient for our customers." In order to purchase a 31-day fare card online, customers must first register for an account. Through a secure provider, the customer must submit personal information. Once the customer establishes an account, he/she may be able to use a credit card to purchase the 31-day fare card. The initial purchase of a 31-day fare card online will total $43.75. This total includes a $3.00 service charge, which is applied to the purchase of all new reloadable fare cards, and a $2.75 processing fee. Within three to five days, the customer should receive their fare card in the mail. During the registration process, customers may choose to execute the automatic reload function, which simply reloads the fare card every 31 days. This reload will total $40.75; all subsequent reloads will total this amount, which includes the fare of $38.00 plus the $2.75 processing fee. If a customer chooses not to execute the automatic reload feature, then that customer will receive an email expiration notice within five days of the expiration. "In the future, we hope to offer more than just our 31-day fare card online," Garrison said. The StarCard will also allow customers to access information about StarMetro's partners via a quick response, or QR, code displayed on the back of the card.
