well, this is also an fm radio in case that wasn't clear.
you only have to add some battery powered portible speakers, and you have an
accessible boombox!
you aren't going to get anything cheaper which is accessible. the only
thing nearer to being a boombox, doesn't run on batteries, and is $200
(it'sw the vision free radio).

Thanks, but don't really want a media player. I have a digital recorder and
a iphone and a Ipad. I wanting something more along the line of a AM/FM
radio like something like a boom box.

Betsy knows more about this than I do, but I know the free rockbox talking
software can be added to a lot of standard media players. here's a link to
someone who does this for you, and sells the media players ready to go for a
blind person (they seem to be around $75, but I think they're remaindered
and/or refurbished):

These are the portible kind requiring headphones. Someone makes a "vision
free" table top of radio for the blind, but I think it's around $200 with
stereo speakers. It does receive HD radio though, where the Sansa media
players do not.
The booksense sells a model with a built-in fm radio (although it's
primarily a digital talking book player). if you mostly wanted a digitalk
talking book player, I think it and others can add an fm radio for not much
more, but they're way above your $200 limit.
