Thanks Lynn for explaining all this, and for the apology (we get very few of
these here ... I may save it for its collector value in the future <grin>).

I feel that it's one thing to complain when you have something specific you are
requesting (e.g. bla bla bla doesn't work, but if you just change it by bla
bla bla it would be really good), and it's quite another (as you've noticed),
when we have emails that just say "bla bla bla never works and they never tell
the truth and they have terrible dress-sense and my life is just ruined ...".
I'm not sure what purpose those types of emails serve, and you aren't the only
one <oops, I'm pressing my delete key now <grin>).

Ok I was a bit edgy on my last response. I should have hit the delete key
instead of the send key. I am more of a literalist and have trouble reading
between the lines. When you write about The Red Hills route I just figure
you are talking about that route and not another.

The demise of the Red Hills route just proves my point about a decentralized
bus system. The Red Hills route was underperforming due to ridership and on
time performance. oh how I remember being on that route up at Village Square
stuck in noon traffic. Then at the other end of the route, the state would
not play ball with Star Metro and stagger their work schedule letting their
employees off at the same time. Star Metro doesn't have enough busses to
load all those workers on busses at one time.

One more example I would like to make about flexible bus routes. TCC in
the past few months decided to reduce their student service fees so they cut
out the free bus passes for students. So that can free up one less bus going
out to their campus. So that bus can be assigned to another route.

I apologize again for bing snarky with my previous response.

Boy wait until you read my response. Have you ever seen a Braille sign on
the bus stop signs? On my last trip I didn't find a single one. How do you
explain Red hills and south wood. I understand you can't get everything you
want but once and a while would be nice.

Owen, they may happen, but I've seen Star Metro modify their plans due to
public input too many times to let a remark like yours go by unopposed.

They actually do have good reasons when they plan for something, but I've
seen them respond to public comment and change their plans. Why do you
think we have braille plaques and Google transit routing on the way? Do you
think they woke up one morning and decided they would just want to do that?
In my opinion that's not how it happened: they responded to our public
opinion (even when they may not have originally wanted to do these things),
and they eventually made them happen because we asked for them.

Nope, none of us gets everything we ask for, but I feel very strongly that
they are listening, and especially so to the VI community.

With all due respect to Mr. Waterman, the changes are certainly a done
deal. Because the planners want to do them, the changes WILL happen.
Just like the decentralization of Nova 2010 was a done deal. Yet now,
years later, how many routes go through C.K. Steele Plaza?

They are not a done deal. We have to consider all public comment when
making a route change. We are using our committees to help our analysis
of the options. Once we determine a set of changes, we go to the public
to get more comment.

Thanks much, Brian. So, to clarify, are the changes a "done deal" or
could the public outreach sway Starmetro's decision about how the
routes are modified?

This is Brian. We are finalizing our internal review. Once we are done,
we will have an extensive public outreach campaign.

Hello Interested Parties,
I wanted to provide you with a summary of the TAC meeting I attended
yesterday. Much of the meeting pertained to re-routing
“underperforming” routes, specifically Big Bend, Gulf, and San Luis.
The proposed changes would take effect in August. Some discussion took
place regarding the fixed route drivers clearly and consistently
announcing bus stops. Quintis Douglas was there and said he’d ridden 10
buses that morning to “spot check” bus stop announcements. He said it
was hit or miss. The Chairman of TAC will do some research regarding
the specific statute/code that speaks to bus stop announcement.
Starmetro is seeking grants for automated stop announcement. Presently
no money for it.$19 per month fixed-route bus pass for people with
disabilities is in the works. No availability date provided.Requested
specific changes to Route “E”. Too late in process to implement by
August. Will take into consideration. Requester should periodically
follow up with Brian WatermanBrian.Waterman@xxxxxxxxxx and Charles
MainCharles.Main@xxxxxxxxxx.Under the topic of Dial-A-Ride (DAR),
several issues were brought to the table. Unfortunately, pre-prepared
DAR related info from me was not included in the TAC members’ packets.
I commit to making hard copies available at the next
meeting.· Having tokens available on vans – No consensus but
members believe they should be made available at the CK Steele Plaza.
Many believe this will create too much work for
drivers.· Automated text or phone call alert system with a 5
minute warning of Dial-A-Ride arrival. Andy says IVR is in place and
working. Both John Plesco and I reported that we’d never received any
sort of alert. Andy says they have a meeting 5/22 to further discuss. I
will follow up with her. (Note inquiry just sent via TABI. Please
respond to me asap as to if you’ve ever received an alert of immanent
arrival?)· Requested that the after-hours greeting be changed to
instruct callers how to reach answering service. – No commitment.
Reservationist to be consolidated with Utility call center in July.
Previous requests submitted. Will continue to follow up.
· Requested that a clearly defined set of rules and effective
complaint process be developed with input from concerned patrons and
DAR staff so that repeated issues can be identified and addressed. – No
commitment. Volunteered my help in this endeavor. · Requested
accessible application materials for 3-year recertification. Andy says
they currently have this in a word doc format and can provide to
folks.· DAR related items discussion will be a standing item on
future TAC agendas.Miscellaneous: · University of FL is
conducting an ADA analysis of DAR to be completed by August· Need
people to show up at City Commission meeting to help support
StarMetro’s funding request for a full-time scheduler position and 4
full-time drivers. Andy will let me know when and committed to ensuring
folks have transport home.· The next TAC meeting will be in July
on a Thursday.After-thoughtWill the Telephone Recording software
transfer to the consolidated call center in July?Per James Barnes with
City of Tallahassee from Utility Manager’s office, Yes. They are
updating to add the most modern platform of the Call Recording
software. They will also be able to see/hear real-time (incoming
calls). The software will also interact with social media. Hours will
be extended (5 a.m. – 10 p.m.).
