[swn] Schemer's Gazette 2

Subject: Notes from the editor

Hi all. It's time for another gazette. All the production tools are
working well, although I've still not packaged some for download. This
issue, I've reduced the number of item headers and tried to keep the
items short, as that seems to be what's appreciated in these emails.

Feedback welcome, especially on the format changes and the frequency.
Currently, it feels like monthly is going to be about right, but that
may change if I get a lot of submissions or some articles (remember:
email notes of max 19 lines of 74 for publication to mjr@xxxxxxxxxxxxx)

Hope you enjoy this collection. I've managed to track down some old
friends. In this edition:

- mod_scheme 0.3.3a and CVS
- GNU/MIT Scheme 7.7.90
- PLT Scheme v208-p1
- Gauche 0.8.1
- quack.el 0.26
- Swindle 20040810
- STklos 0.58
- WebScraperHelper 0.1
- ICFP'04 Call for Participation
- Rooster Graph

Subject: mod_scheme 0.3.3a and CVS
X-URL: http://blufox.batcave.net/mod_scheme.html

A Scheme module for the Apache protocol server. Release of 0.3.3a,
CVS connection details and latest development news posted.

Subject: GNU/MIT Scheme 7.7.90
X-URL: http://www.gnu.org/software/mit-scheme/

This is the famous implementation from MIT, now part of the GNU project.
It calls itself the UnCommon Lisp. This is the first testing release
of MIT/GNU Scheme. The record abstraction receives a major update
and character objects now provide direct support for Unicode. Help is
needed to update the documentation and produce binaries for non-GNU/Linux
systems.

Subject: PLT Scheme v208-p1
X-URL: http://download.plt-scheme.org/

PLT Scheme is a complete cross-platform Scheme environment. This patch
release fixes image.ss teachpack and its documentation, adds design
wizards used in a Java workshop and improves PLaneT documentation.
In v208, large changes happened to FrTime, ProfessorJ and the htdp
teachpacks.

Subject: Gauche 0.8.1
X-URL: http://www.shiro.dreamhost.com/scheme/gauche/

Gauche is an R5RS Scheme designed to be a handy script interpreter for
several Unix-like platforms. This is a maintenance release, improving
www.cgi, rfc.uri, regexp objects and some examples. Some bugs are
fixed, too.

Subject: quack.el 0.26
X-URL: http://www.neilvandyke.org/quack/

Quack is a Scheme mode for Emacs with support for many implementations.
This release fontifies a bunch of Chicken define-* statements.

Subject: Swindle 20040810
X-URL: http://www.cs.cornell.edu/eli/Swindle/swindle/version.txt

Swindle is a collection of modules that extend PLT scheme with features
like a CLOS-style object system and much more. This version is for
PLT v208.

Subject: STklos 0.58
X-URL: http://www.stklos.net/

STklos is a free Scheme System (nearly) conform to R5RS, aiming to be
fast as well as light, based on an ad-hoc Virtual Machine. This release
adds some new build options, a new compiler debug option, more accurate
error locations, a sleep primitive, SRFIs 34, 35, 36 and 48 and bug fixes.

Subject: WebScraperHelper 0.1
X-URL: http://www.neilvandyke.org/webscraperhelper/

WebScraperHelper is a new little programmer's aid for making SXPath
queries from examples of SXML. It is intended for use in writing
Web-scraping programs that use SXPath and HtmlPrag. Feedback is
appreciated.

Subject: ICFP'04 Call for Participation
X-URL: http://www.cs.indiana.edu/icfp04/

The 2004 International Conference on Functional Programming (ICFP),
in Snowbird, Utah on 19-22 September 2004. Early registration rates
until 25 August 2004

Subject: Rooster Graph
X-URL: http://www.nongnu.org/rgraph/

Rooster Graph is a graph library for Chicken Scheme. Patterned after the
popular Boost Graph Library for C++, it allows for a very clean separation
between the graph container and graph algorithms. It does not have the
complete functionality of the Boost Graph Library, but it does go a bit
further by having both strict- and lazy-evaluated methods; the user of the
graph has pause/continue/stop control and is not constrained by memory.
