It sounds like you are using Windows 2000 or XP with a single processor. =
That configuration can cause software synthesizers and JAWS to bog down. =
The newer machines with Hyper Threading work much better.
Since you are probably not willing to go out an buy a new machine just to =
run heavy processing with speech, there is another thing you can try. =
Remember, I am assuming you are using 2000 or XP with JAWS. Hit Shift+Ctrl+=
Escape to open the Task Manager. Move to the Process tab and select =
JFW.exe. Then, hit the Applications key and select the Priority submenu. =
Set the priority to Above normal. Note: don't set it to High or Realtime; =
that would be begging for trouble.Above normal is good enough.
If you are told that you don't have appropriate access rights, unload JAWS =
and reload it. You should then be able to change the priority.
For anyone who is wondering, SR does not change the priority at any time, =
including when encoding. This is a Windows issue, not a SR issue.
