It really depends on the two sound levels, but a good rule of thumb is to reduce both levels a little, then try it to see how many clips you get. If too big, just undo then try again. A few clips or even a few dozen clips is not really too much when you are talking about several seconds of sound. I have often just had to futz around to get a mixed recording without clipping. Of course, one can always set the mix volumes low enough to avoid this and then adjust the volume of the total mix afterward, but is there a rule of thumb here about where one sets these volume controls, or does it totally depend on the sound levels one is mixing? thanks. Let's say that I have a piece of music I want to use as an introduction. I also have an already recorded file of a podcast. I want to play 8 seconds of the music before the podcast begins, and I want to have the music fade out for three seconds before the podcast begins. At some point in the first 10 or so seconds of the podcast, I want to totally fade out the music. What is the easiest way to do this. Thanks for your help. I think this will clarify at least this example for a lot of people. I prefer using the X command to mix a piece that is on the clipboard, but it really depends on the specific situation.
