[SL] Re: san fran bay area bookeeper?

Job Security seems to be starting up for SQL-Ledger bookkeepers.

Pitty it's in USA, I like the attitude of this firm! If a bookkeeper =
will
not use SQL-ledger just go find another ;-)
Anyone with a basic knowledge in the field should be able to do =
bookkeeping
tasks in ANY application.
If the local bookkeepers are so rigid that they do not want to see this =
they
lack in either accounting skills or computer skills. You are quite right =
to
look for another.
Personally I stopped naming the app's I can work with on my resume and
changed it to 'all'.
You understand one, you understand them all; you either do or do not
understand accounting.=20
The size of the windows or buttons in the GUI is _NOT_ the issue.
Getting used to a new program may take a while.=20
Saying 'it can only be done in application A or B' is proof that you are
lazy and not flexable.=20

Scanning and emailing would be an option? If remote login is enabled =
(only
for the IP of the bookkeeper) there is no need to 'come in' once a week. =
The
bookkeeper could be in Zimbabwe, Botswana or Tokyo just as well, one of =
the
nice parts in SQL-Ledger. Look at the demo sites to get the idea; you =
can
enter data from anywhere.=20

Historically, us Dutch never minded where the trade was from, we even =
used
to sail the seas to get it!=20
However, if that is not really necessary I'd rather stay home and sail =
the
virtual seas of the net.=20

Cost-saving advice:=20
What exactly is it you need the 'bookkeeper' to do apart from data =
entry?=20
The line between "light bookkeeping" as you call it and "heavy =
data-entry"
is very thin in my opinion.
Remember, data-entry is relatively cheap. Bookkeepers and accountants =
are
generally speaking more expensive.=20

As mentioned above, AR / AP follow up, phoning people with overdue =
balances
and such is no different in SQL-Ledger than in Quickbooks, SAP, Quicken =
or
Oracle. Therefore, seeking SQL-ledger experienced people is maybe =
narrowing
down the field.
You only have to educate staff and freelancers to understand this simple
fact of life.
I repeat: The size of the windows or buttons in the GUI is _NOT_ the =
issue.
You either do or do not understand what you are supposed to be doing.=20

Grtz,
Paul

hey gang,

we're a server builder company in the Silicon Valley that's been using
sql-ledger for quite some time. none of us are really bookeepers so we
interviewed a few firms to help us out a bit.

unfortunately, they all wanted us to switch to quickbooks in order to =
help
us out. needless to say, we definitely don't want to go down that route =
:P

so, I was wondering if there's anybody that's local to the San Jose,
California area or if anybody knows where we can find somebody for some=20
light bookeeping. we're hoping that we can find somebody to come in once =

a week to enter AR/AP for a few hours.

thanks!
