[SL] Re: Trust or Fund Accounting

I am not using SQL-Ledger for similar purposes, but I do have some
suggestions.0
Two options spring to mind:

1: Create a new 'firm' per estate / trust, should suffice but may be
overkill.
On the other hand, no max number of firms in the license here ;-)
Use A/P and A/R or not as you like
(I use this option for several people I do the accounts for, using same
Account-numbers ;-)

2: Make use of the Philips Decimal System for Chart Of Accounts.=20
I made a sample that is in the distro under Dutch_decimal-something.sql
Although intended for industrial process accounting, there is no reason =
why
you could not kick out existing 3xxx accounts (no stock in lawfirms I =
take
it) create a series of Balance-sheet accounts (per estate) there for B/S
items.
Thinking about it, in fact you keep rtrack of the 'stock' of the estate, =
be
it money,=20
Then kick out 5xxx or 6xxx accounts and re-use for p/l items accounts =
per
estate.=20

Something like:

# 30010 Estate A - Assets
# 50010 Estate A - Expenses
# 60010 Estate A - Incomelike items

Guess whats 30011?

Hth,

Paul

Hi

I want to use SL to run accounts for some trusts and estates which I =
look
after (I'm a lawyer, not an accountant but I have a vague grasp of =
double
entry accounting!). The AR/AP structure is not really appropriate for =
these
type of accounts and I would like to customise some of the basic posting
routines. =20

I have created my own chart of accounts and so far so good - I can post
everything via the general ledger. Before I go any further, I wonder =
if
anyone else is using SL for a similar purpose and has been through the =
same
customisation exercise.

TIA for your help.

Nick Evans
