... But the choice /isn't/ good if it compromises the integrity of
ongoing maintainability of the software.  And that /is/ a troublesome
thing.

Windows uses substantially different build management software, and
modifying PostgreSQL's build to conform with that would be both
necessary and injurious to existing users.

It might well be that the best choice would be for there to be an
outright code fork, as unpalatable as that is.

It might alternatively be that the best choice is to point people that
Must Use Windows to use SAP-DB, where running it on Windows is more
nearly "Job #1."

It may turn out to be "ugly, but workable" to have a native PG port to
Windows that's not too many versions away from the "real" version, but
the issue is something that is certainly disputable, /amongst those that
write PostgreSQL code/.
