..HEAT WAVE EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND...

A STRONG AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE ALOFT WILL BUILD NORTHWARD ACROSS
ILLINOIS BY SATURDAY. AS IT DOES...INCREASINGLY HOTTER AND MORE
HUMID AIR WILL SPREAD ACROSS CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST ILLINOIS.
TEMPERATURES THIS WEEKEND ARE EXPECTED TO REACH THE LOWER TO MIDDLE
90S DURING THE AFTERNOONS...WITH HEAT INDEX VALUES PEAKING FROM
100 TO 105 DEGREES. NOT MUCH RELIEF IS EXPECTED AT NIGHT...AS LOW
TEMPERATURES ONLY DIP INTO THE LOWER TO MIDDLE 70S.

WITH THE UNUSUALLY COOL WEATHER THE PAST SEVERAL WEEKS...MANY AREAS
HAVE NOT REACHED 90 DEGREES SINCE JUNE 27TH. AS PEOPLE MAY NO LONGER
BE USED TO THE SUMMER HEAT...THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR OVEREXERTION
AND RESULTING HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES. TRY TO AVOID SPENDING
EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF TIME OUTSIDE THIS WEEKEND...ESPECIALLY DOING
STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES. STAY IN AN AIR CONDITIONED AREA AS MUCH AS
POSSIBLE...DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS...AND CHECK UP ON NEIGHBORS AND
RELATIVES WHO MAY NOT HAVE AIR CONDITIONING. NEVER LEAVE CHILDREN
OR PETS UNATTENDED IN PARKED VEHICLES.

THE HEAT WILL LIKELY LINGER INTO MONDAY ESPECIALLY SOUTH OF I-74
WHERE AFTERNOON HEAT INDICES COULD TOP 100 DEGREES. TEMPERATURE
AND HUMIDITY LEVELS SHOULD THEN COOL BACK TO NORMAL DURING THE
MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK.
