..ICE STORM HEADING FOR CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST ILLINOIS...

THE COMBINATION OF COLD AIR IN PLACE ACROSS THE REGION AND AN
APPROACHING STORM SYSTEM WILL PROVIDE CONDITIONS CONDUCIVE TO
ICING ACROSS THE AREA LATE THURSDAY AFTERNOON INTO FRIDAY.
ALTHOUGH THE PRECIPITATION MAY BRIEFLY START AS SLEET...WARM AIR
ABOVE THE SURFACE WILL CHANGE THE PRECIPITATION TO RAIN. AS THE
RAIN PASSES THROUGH FREEZING CONDITIONS NEAR THE SURFACE AND
ENCOUNTERS THE COLD GROUND...ICE WILL BEGIN TO ACCUMULATE. THE
WARM AIR WILL GRADUALLY WORK ITS WAY TO THE SURFACE AND BEGIN TO
MELT THE ICE. THE WARMER CONDITIONS SHOULD MOVE AS FAR AS NORTH AS
SPRINGFIELD AND DECATUR BEFORE SUNRISE AND THEN SPREAD OVER MUCH
OF THE REMAINDER OF THE REGION EARLY FRIDAY MORNING. RAINFALL
RATES MAY BECOME QUITE HEAVY AT TIMES THURSDAY EVENING ALONG AND
NORTH OF A BEARDSTOWN TO BLOOMINGTON-NORMAL LINE. LOCALIZED ICE
ACCUMULATIONS OF UP TO THREE-QUARTERS OF AN INCH MAY BE POSSIBLE
IN THIS AREA...WHICH INCLUDES THE CITY OF PEORIA.

CST FRIDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LINCOLN HAS ISSUED A FREEZING
RAIN ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 3 PM THURSDAY TO 6 AM CST
FRIDAY.

FREEZING RAIN IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS THE ADVISORY AREA LATE
THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND CONTINUE THURSDAY NIGHT. SURFACE TEMPERATURES
WILL RISE ABOVE FREEZING BY FRIDAY MORNING...CHANGING ANY
REMAINING FREEZING RAIN OVER TO RAIN. HOWEVER...BEFORE THE
PRECIPITATION CHANGES OVER TO RAIN...ICE ACCUMULATIONS UP TO A
QUARTER OF AN INCH ARE POSSIBLE.

A FREEZING RAIN ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF FREEZING RAIN OR
FREEZING DRIZZLE WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR
SLIPPERY ROADS. SLOW DOWN AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.
