        Trouble in Toyland

Today's site, from the U.S. Public Interest Research Group, offers the 26th
Annual
Toy Safety Report -- better known as Trouble in Toyland. Gentle Subscribers will
find this year's round-up of problematic toys and a checklist of safety tips for
the careful toy shopper.

"In the last 26 years, our research and reporting have led to at least 130
recalls.
Yet every year, we find new dangers on store shelves. Last year alone, more than
250,000 kids went to the ER with toy-related injuries, many of which could have
been avoided." - from the website

The site provides an executive summary of the full report, highlighting areas of
special concern to consumers. Specifically, these include toys that may contain
potentially toxic substances like lead, or whose small parts may constitute a
choking danger, as well as those which produce excessively loud sounds. The
complete report is available for download or browsing in PDF format. In the
Shopping Tips section -- visitors may have to scroll upwards -- a rock-bottom
list
of unsafe toy parts notes particularly hazardous components. A convenient Toy
Safety app in .mobi format is available for smartphone users.
