The New New York Skyline
Today's site, from National Geographic, offers dramatic views of the
transformation occurring in New York City's skyline. Gentle Subscribers,
whether they love or loathe the Big Apple, will discover a fascinating
perspective on this iconic American metropolis.
"What New York Could Look Like in 2020 ... Manhattan is in the midst of an
unprecedented boom in tall buildings. Before 2004, Manhattan was home to 28
skyscrapers 700 feet and taller. Since then, an additional 13 have been built,
15 are under construction, and 19 are proposed -- 47 more in all. These
additions are rapidly-- and radically -- changing the skyline." - from the
website
This interestingly designed presentation provides a swirl of graphics to
underscore the changes currently in progress in New York City. Maps of
Manhattan pinpoint the areas undergoing the most notable constructions, while
specific street identification zeros in beneath the design. Special features of
the display include images of the new World Trade Center structures and gossipy
details about Billionaires' Row near Central Park. 3-D images of the
staggeringly large Hudson Yards project are accompanied by pithy facts on its
costs and components.
