Water in a Bottle - How Safe? How Smart?

From the always interesting and often provocative features of the "Why
Files" comes a new presentation on the current trend of bottled water
consumption. Gentle Members who have regarded this fad with a touch of
cynicism will find an enlightening examination of "designer water" at the
site.

"Bottled water is pure, refreshing, life-giving. Bottlers say their stuff
is better than love or money. But is bottled water absolutely safe? Should
you be drinking 8 cups a day? Can you overdose?" - from the website

The site examines studies undertaken to test for microbial and chemical
contamination in bottled water and compares the safety of such products
with ordinary and regulated tap water. The little known condition of
hyponatremia -- loss of sodium in the blood -- is also discussed.
Revelations surrounding the scientific basis and controversy of the
long-standing "8 servings of 8 ounces per day" guideline for daily water
consumption makes for fascinating reading as well.
