The New World Trade Center 2002: A Proposal for a New Beginning
Occasionally, the List encounters truly remarkable information online. "A
Proposal for a New Beginning" of "The World Trade Center 2002" created by
architect Derek G. Turner of Turning House Enterprises is a striking
website in terms of its content. The site presents a concept for a unique
structure to replace what had been destroyed.
Mr. Turner's design proposes five circular towers, topped by a pyramid,
rising 1750 feet to create the tallest building in the world. (The previous
WTC towers were 1320 feet.) The website includes details of this "Cyber
City", with details of a memorial park within a biosphere, in which will be
planted 2833 trees, each with a plaque to commemorate those who lost their
lives in September 2001. Safety features envisioned include the
implementation of a "Five Mile No Fly Zone" coupled with a "Sound Waves"
technology designed to repel flying objects within this zone, as well as
extensive and redundant internal evacuation capabilities.
Since the site was created on May 20, it has attracted over 168,000
visitors of whom more than 24,000 have voted for this design, while just
over 5000 have cast negative votes.
Patience is required to view the site since it loads very slowly. A sombre
musical score accompanies the many images and material.
Journey to the website for a formidable vision of what could become an
historic structure at:
