One Across - Search for Crossword Puzzle Answers
For those Gentle Subscribers stuck at 48 down in a challenging crossword
puzzle, don't despair. Today's site offers a remarkably successful database
devised to track down that elusive missing word.
"Welcome to OneAcross, a unique site for puzzle help. Search for crossword
puzzle answers or get help with cryptograms. ... Crossword Clue Search ...
Having trouble getting the last word in that crossword puzzle? Having
trouble getting the first? See if our search engine can help! Unlike pure
pattern dictionary searches, we actually analyze the clue as well." - from
the website
The site works simply by asking for the given clue and the number of
letters it contains. Although specified letters may be included, the widest
results are achieved without the inclusion of any letters and increases the
possibility that the word, unlikely though it may seem initially, is the
one being sought. In fact, this online database is so good at ferreting out
those totally obscure words which can trip up even experience players, that
the List recommends using this site only as a last resort.
