Site of the Day for Monday, February 3, 2003 Chill Facts /Cold Storage Chart Gentle Members trying to keep tabs on what's in the freezer and how long that frozen chicken can be stored may be heartened by today's website. The U.S. Food Safety division in conjunction with their National Food Safety education program presents straightforward information in dealing with food storage and freezing. Since these webpages are part of a much larger site, the List is suggesting two specific, single webpages. The first, "Chill Facts", covers the essential facts for defrosting frozen foods, to avoid the danger of bacteria growth, as well as dealing with the time frame and temperature constraints of serving chilled, perishable foods. Slide over to the "Chill Facts" page for a convenient guide on food safety at: http://www.foodsafety.gov/~fsg/f01chill.html The second webpage, the "Cold Storage Chart", contains a table with an extensive list of basic food products, the number of days they can be stored in the refrigerator and how long they can be kept safely in the freezer. This second page is certainly worth bookmarking as a handy reference. Nip along to the "Cold Storage Chart" to see if that frozen pizza is really safe to eat at: http://www.foodsafety.gov/~fsg/f01chart.html A.M.
