Ground-level ozone and airborne particles are the two pollutants that pose the greatest threat to human health in this country." - from the website The site provides a detailed explanation of the Air Quality Index, and how the quantity of different pollutants in the air and respiratory sensitivity in the general public, result in various levels of warning advisory notices. Focusing on specific pollutants targeted in the Clean Air Act: ground-level ozone, particle pollution, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide, the forecasts place a special emphasis on ozone and particulate pollution. Maps displaying areas of serious ozone concern are updated hourly.
