10,000 Reasons Civilization is Doomed
Today's web page offers an ongoing collection of indicators of why
civilization appears doomed. Gentle Subscribers may find themselves nodding
in sage agreement, singularly annoyed, or hugely entertained, as they
peruse the list.
"This site was started by six friends who, sitting around the dinner table
one Saturday night, came to the conclusion that civilization was doomed. We
felt this way not because of the inevitable dimming of our sun, or an
errant asteroid, but rather because of the idiocy of our times. ... [W]e
decided that one way of making ourselves feel better would be to list them
for all the world to see and to add upon." - from the website
The list of "serious" cracks in our civilization currently stands, at the
website, at over 3000, so there's plenty of room for visitors to add their
own brief perspectives before the 10,000 mark is reached. Through Non
Apology Apologies (#3280) to Botox (#3261) the doomsday indicators range
far and wide. There's still lots of scope for additions, although "self
help books" (#1289) and "road rage is now considered a medical affliction"
(#3180) have already been noted. Brief posting guidelines are included at
the top right of the page.
