#1 Song on This Date in History

Today's site, from DJ Josh Hosler, offers a unique reference service -- the
facility to look up the most popular song on virtually any date in the past
eighty
years. Gentle Subscribers may enjoy this nostalgic tour through the top of the
music charts.

"[T]his information ... from ... Billboard magazine ... the most authoritative
source for determining the most popular songs in the U.S.A. For the years 1958
to
the present, this information comes from the Hot 100 chart, a weekly
compilation of
the 100 most popular songs in the U.S.A., based on radio airplay and sales of
singles." - from the website

The site provides the top of the pops tunes for specific dates, from the mid
1930's
onwards, with the title and recording artist. There is even information about
the
best-selling sheet music from the late 1800's, while the more modern selections
have links to commercial enterprises for purchase. An additional feature charts
the
top 40 songs of this week 25 years ago.

Special thanks to Subscriber "CMC" for this suggestion.
