Hi Cindy, I am very much a green person I used to feel the same about lye so I did some research on the net. Lye is a natural chemical reaction and has been the method for making soap for thousands of years earliest history I could find was from the Babylon times 5000 years ago. Made naturally it is the result from rain water running over plant ashes (special trees) and hay the water collected is turned into lye granules. These days it probably made by running electrisity (can't spell lol)through water. Hope this helps your concerns. Yes it is worth doing its fun fun fun and very additive and very rewarding. I am also new. Glad to know that reheating worked for you. I’m addicted to making soap via Cold process and I’m also into making lotions. I’d also like to get into natural cleaning products as well. I have had a few probs with the lotions but my last batch has been sorted and it is smooth and thick. Soap making is a challenge and I hope to get more into it but lotion making and natural cleaning products are my first preference. Pauline Rouse TOKOROA Meet local singles online.
