      Sao Mai Computer Center wins funding from Samsung Electronics

      The Sao Mai Computer Center for the Blind in HCMC has been awarded for 
its IT project in an international contest named Samsung Digital All Hope 
sponsored by Samsung Electronics. Vietnam has two projects awarded with a total 
of US $83,600. The center has been given funding of US $40,475.

      In order to meet the blindÂ?s desperate demand for IT access the center 
has worked out a project providing computer aided distance training for the 
blind.   With the awarded project, the projectors at the center hope that the 
visually impaired community of Vietnam can have chances to use the information 
technology in education, vocational training, and online social and cultural 
activities.

      The center was established at the end of 2001 by the Ho Chi Minh City 
Branch of Vietnam Save the Disabled Children Association (HSDCA).   Most 
members of the center are the blind.   The center was also given an award of US 
$10,000 two months ago in another event, Vietnam Innovation Day held by the 
World Bank.
