Sacramento, CA
Sacramento-based Assistive Technology Center today released a new line of
desktop electronic video magnifiers (also known as CCTV's). ATC President
Robert Leblond said that his company developed the new style of visual aid
because he was dissatisfied with the choices currently available to him
and his clients.
"The stuff that's out there today is mostly junk, with a couple of
exceptions, and those cost about twice what they are worth", said Leblond.
The new line is called the AdvantEdge CCTV and is available in three
editions: Silver, Gold, and Platinum. According to Leblond, "We wanted
to have a product that had the best features of all the current offerings,
at an affordable price." And since a majority of users are seniors, "we
don't want something that has a control panel as complicated as the space
shuttle--It has to be easy."
"The Platinum edition is the most full featured, yet easiest to use model
of CCTV I have ever worked with." Leblond says. This magnifier has the
broadest range of any video magnifier: from 3X to 160X. It is a full
color, auto-focus device with freeze frame, reverse-contrast, and variable
brightness features. And everything runs from 2 buttons. The AdvantEdge
Platinum comes with a 20 inch, flat panel S-Video monitor, but users can
connect it to a standard RCA-TV monitor or even a VGA computer monitor.
This unit also has the largest tray table available today. And, unlike
the majority of CCTV's available today, the AdvantEdge models are made out
of metal, not plastic. They are virtually indestructible. The two year
warranty is also the best available of its kind. And the best part is
that this machine retails for about 40% less than comparable machines.
The AdvantEdge Gold has no freeze frame capability, and the remaining
functions are accessed through 5 buttons and knobs instead of 2.
The Silver edition is a manual focus machine.
