programme to bring light to blind people in Laos.

programme. Lao Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh attended
the meeting.

> The Vietnamese side covered all the costs of the surgical operations, each
worth about 500,000 VND. The Lao side paid for the patients' transport,
meals and accommodation.

> The Vietnamese doctors also plan to operate on about 600 other Lao
patients in the southern province of Champassak.

> Speaking with the Vietnam News Agency reporter, Deputy PM Bouasone
Bouphavanh thanked HCM City surgeons for conducting the free cataract
surgery for poor Lao patients. He said he believed that the programme will
contribute to Laos' poverty reduction programme.

operations on 484 poor people in Vientiane and the southern province of
Champassak. In addition, they also presented 246 crystalline lenses to the
