Hi Caroline--
I've worked with Access as a Database Manager, so if you are unable to resolve
your problem here, and you want help in person, I could meet with you briefly
to help.

Will's approach is sound, but I can offer a couple alternatives in the details.
If you don't want to create a relationship between the tables in relationship
view, you can do it right from the query manual interface, and it will only
affect that query. Just click and drag from one column to the next. You need a
one-to-one relationship if the columns are identical--so when it gives you the
options for the relationship, select "Just the values that are the same in BOTH
tables."

If you want to preserve your results of your query as a table for some reason,
you should have the option "save query as table." Or you can change the query
type to a "make table" query. Sometimes cutting and pasting is impractical with
huge datasets or doesn't work correctly, so if you need to export directly you
should be able to export results from either a query or a table to Excel by
choosing export under the file menu.

Let me know if you would like further help.

[slislita] Access database
question

Hi all,

Anybody know how to combine data from two different tables in an Access
database? There is one column that is the same in both tables. I need to be
able to merge these two tables and then export them to Excel. I haven't used
Access very much except for adding new data to tables.

Also, does anyone have any experience with the Microsoft (Data) Map function in
Excel? If so, any tips/pointers?

Regards,

Caroline
