I did change kernels and probably the .config. Problem disappeared when I used a more recent kernel - 2.6.24.7 2.6.22.18 - Error messages 2.6.24.7 - No error messages Possibly the problem was some parameter in .config The bottom line is that those error messages are gone and I don't have a good reason to track down which configuration parameter may have been responsible.
