WINTER WEATHER OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAUNTON MA
532 PM EST SAT FEB 8 2003

...SNOW MONDAY INTO MONDAY EVENING MAY BE HEAVY FOR A TIME ACROSS
PARTS OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND...

THIS OUTLOOK STATEMENT COVERS RHODE ISLAND...NORTH CENTRAL AND
NORTHEAST CONNECTICUT...MUCH OF THE BAY STATE EXCEPT NOT THE
BERKSHIRES...AND ALSO INCLUDES SOUTHWEST NEW HAMPSHIRE.

A GREAT LAKES LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS FORECAST TO TRANSFER ENERGY
INTO A NEW AND RAPIDLY INTENSIFYING GALE CENTER JUST SOUTHEAST OF
NANTUCKET LATE MONDAY. THIS THREATENS TO BRING ANOTHER PERIOD OF
HEAVY SNOW TO PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND.

ITS EARLY TO BE SURE WHETHER AMOUNTS WILL REACH 7 INCHES...BUT A
WIDESPREAD PLOWABLE SNOW IS FORECAST MONDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING.

THE MOST LIKELY REGION TO RECEIVE THE HEAVIEST SNOW APPEARS TO LIE
FROM HARTFORDS NORTHERN SUBURBS TO SPRINGFIELD...WORCESTER AND
BOSTON...THEN UP INTO SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE.

A FLUFF FACTOR IS EXPECTED IN THE INTERIOR BUT COASTAL SOUTHEAST NEW
ENGLAND WILL RUN A COUPLE OF DEGREES WARMER THIS TIME...ALLOWING FOR
A WETTER SNOW FROM NEW BEDFORD TO PLYMOUTH AND THE CAPE.

THERE IS CHANCE THAT RAIN WILL MIX WITH THE SNOW FROM CHATHAM TO
NANTUCKET AND ALSO THAT SOME OF THE SNOW WILL MELT ON CONTACT ACROSS
THE CAPE AND ISLANDS WHERE TEMPERATURES WILL RISE WELL UP INTO THE
30S.

IT APPEARS THE GREATEST IMPACT OF THIS STORM WILL BE SNOW FALLING
DURING THE MONDAY EVENING COMMUTE...ESPECIALLY FROM WORCESTER AND
BOSTON TO NASHUA AND MANCHESTER.

A BITTERLY COLD WIND WILL BE FELT DURING THE DAY TUESDAY IN THE WAKE
OF THE RAPID DEPARTURE OF THIS STORM.

THE NEXT STATEMENT ON THIS SITUATION WILL PROBABLY NOT BE ISSUED
UNTIL SOMETIME SUNDAY MORNING.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR YOUR FAVORITE MEDIA OUTLET FOR
LATER INFORMATION ON THIS DEVELOPING WEATHER SITUATION.
