[SKRIVA] Mission: Finncon (III)

Hi guys! This is Ahrvid again, with my third Finncon report.
This time, I'll use the mobile phone and Bluetooth of a friend of mine, to
get connected.
Finncon seems like a big success. The Tampere people have done at least as
well as any other Finncons. There are huge crowds, especially teenage girls
dressed up for so called cosplay (costume play). Finncon is co-arranged with
Animecon. Anime seems to be a big thing here in Finland.
I have as yet seen no program (but I just a few minutes ago bumped into M
John Harrison, who is one of the GoHs). Yesterday the con had an official party
in a local bar (hundreds of people present, but not the teenage girls - they'd
be underage for a bar). I had very nice chats with lots of people. Let me
especially Mention Juha, who bought me a couple of bheers. Did I tell you - I
write this off-line, so I can't see my earlier reports - that I lost a plastic
bag? Strangely enough, that bag was still there in the bar and I could regain
it! The bheer it contained was gone (I hope whoever took it enjoys Carlsberg!)
but I got my Arthur C Clarke biography back and a pair of binoculars.
Did I tell you that I have now been published in Finnish? My story "The
Vampire on the Space Station" was in the latest issue of Portti (The Gate)
which is Finland's leading sf magazine, (Published by Raimo Nikkonen. His
competitor is Tähtivaelentaja - Star Rover - published by Toni Jerrman.) I of
course feel a little bit proud of being published inFinnish, and just in time
for Finncon. There is a interesting thing about by story: it took sixteen (16)
people to translate it! The translation was done as a school project of a class
in Swedish, and all 16 pupils are given credits as translators. It must,
however, be something of world record to have 16 people working on one and the
same story.
The late night party was very good. Lots of nice people. I stayed there
until something like 3 AM. (However, the staff was a bit rude. About 3 AM - I
suppose they closed at that time - they threw me out. Thats OK, but they
*stole* the bheer I had left. Not good! You should be allowed to fin(n)ish your
bheer!)
The weather has been fabolous. The sun is shining brilliantly.
Tonight, there is supposed to be a dead dog party, according to rumours 30
km outside Tampere. I need to find some sort of transportation. The Finncon
Dead Dog parties are legendary. The will always include a sauna. Looking
forward to it.
