Thank You Sir for your honest reply. It's appreciated.
Hey, we don't need to be "sirs" here!
About the Cover.
Thanks for your comments and explanations about the cover. I still don't
like it, but I'm sure the person who did it is an execellt person worth
all respect! I couldn't do a better cover myself, even if I tried. I guess
I am spoiled regaring cofers to sf/f books, because there are *so* many
absolutely suberb sf/f artists out there. I automatically compare to those
artists.
Her name is Joanna Wright Alley, a 29 year old financially challenged
but excellent mother of 5 wonderful children.
Say hello from me. She's at least a better artist than yours truly...
I'm Eric Wilkins, a 56 year old Mark Knophler wanna be guitarist, whom
has written my first novel.
I am myself 48 years old, free-lance journalist (mainly in IT and
culture) but I have written short stories (sf and crime) for over 20
years. Many of my stories have been published professionally (first pro
sale was 21 years ago), and when my forst sort story collection ("Murder
on the Moon") came last year it was a bit overdue. The "lead novelette" in
the collection was actually serialised in Sweden's leading computer
magazine last summer (named COmputer Sweden, with a printrun of 80 000+).
I continue to write my stories. I prefer short stories and have never
written a novel (if you don't count a satirical hard-boiled crime parody
in the early 80's, published in a fanzine; that story was a novella, a
"short novel", only some 225 000 characters in length).
Perhaps indeed, I will grow as I learn.
At this very moment, in our classrooms, upon this great planet Earth,
there sits the very children that shall go to the Moon and Mars and
beyond.
I don't like George W Bush particulary well. However, he has done *one*
good thing: the initiative to go back to the Moon and thereafter possibly
to Mars. The US could *easily* do that right now with all the money wasted
on this ill-fated war in Iraq. It would be much better to spend the money
on space instead on a Vietnam Version Two. (I fear that the Iraqi
adventure will suck up the money needed for space exploration. Alas.)
Forgive me for not knowing your language yet.
Try some "translation program" (they should be out there on the net
somewhere). But as said, if you write in English, you get replies in
English. This list SKRIVA is intended for sf/f writers, mainly based in
Sweden (but no other language is banned, especially not English). Swedish
is sort of a "cousin" to English, in the group of "Germanic" languages.
English is related to Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Icelandic (a strange
language...), Dutch and German. The odd thing about English is that it has
through the centuries picked up so many influences from other languages
(particulary French); also, English has this not very logical spelling
system. If you can only remember the third person "s" ("he/she/it goes"),
English grammar is pretty straight forward and simple. Reasonably simple
grammar and influences from many languages makes English a pretty good
"world language", I think.
The bad thing about the high status of English is that it makes
especially Americanbs lazy bout other languages. they don't care to learn
other languages. (The Brits are better, and study French in school.
Canadians are better - the have to study French since they have a French
minority.)
I took five years of German as second foreign language, BTW. Wollen Sie
mit mir in Deutsch sprechen? (Not sure if it is "im", but what the heck.)
Your Novel , Murder on the Moon sounds fantastic and the cover is
excellent.
Thanks! The cover is based in NASA drawings. (In the Public Domain, ie
most NASA stuff is "free for the taking" because it's already paid for by
US tax payers. If you see NASA material - it is free. It's their policy.)
