Ah, Dan, that's great! Now we're getting somewhere! :) Thanks for that
help.

Dave,

I see what's happening. When the system item dialog closes, the plug-in
that
describes items when you navigate hasn't had a chance to update yet.
Pressing F5 not only describes the item but also gets the data it needs
for
the grave-accent key to work properly. This is easy to fix. In the mean
time
just make sure that you press F5 before pressing grave-accent.

Dan,

Okay, I get that part. Here's a scenario I still don't understand:

1. I use the system items list to go to a line First Ending system item
in
my score.
2. I use the select button.
4. Of course if I press tab here I'm back to the beginning, as you've
said.
5. However if instead I press the grave accent key I'm also put back at
the
beginning of the score.
6. Not what I would expect.

Only way I just found to make this work, is to press either the Enter
key or
f5 when I'm on that system item.
Then a grave accent keypress will place me on the next staff item.

I don't understand this fine distinction in behavior.

In general, I'm not thrilled with the behavior of the Escape/Tab key
combination. If there's any reason to seriously consider the following
suggestion, then I would suggest:

That hitting Tab after Escape should select either the system/staff item
most recently selected, or at least the staff item nearest the most
recent
system item. If I need to go to the beginning of the score, I simply
press
Ctrl+Home, which would select the first staff item in the score.

My reasoning is that when I'm working at a particular location of the
score,
I usually want to stay reasonably close to that location until I decide
to
jump somewhere else. I'm often frustrated by being dumped to the
beginning
when using the very common keystrokes Escape and Tab.

Any hope for this?

Dave

Dave,

Pressing Tab should only take you back to the start when nothing is
selected
or when a system item is selected. Pressing Tab on a staff item should
take
you to the next note.

Just to clarify, the text item itself should still be selected after you
press Escape to stop editing it. So, when you've finished inputting or
changing the text, you only need to press Escape once and then press Tab
to
get to the next note.

If you press F5 after pressing Escape, you will be told what is
selected. Do
this next time before pressing Tab just to check that things are working
as
expected.

Anyone else suffering from this?

When I do any text editing on the staff, such as adding or editing a
chord
symbol, expression, etc. and I hit escape after the edit, a tab
keystroke
shows that I'm back at the beginning of the score. I find this
irritating.
I'd like to be where I was just after the edit.

However I did learn that pressing the grave accent key (left of the #1
on
the top row) does put you back after the edit. But I just don't remember
this ever being an issue before, perhaps back in the Sib Speaking days.

Anyone else seeing this behavior?

Dave
