Dan, Pressing m does not take me out of mixer, it says that more than one type of strip is showing. Press CTRL M. doing this, followed by pressing m, yields the same message. I have enough vision to know that when JAWS says it's showing staves, it is, in fact, showing what I imagine to be both staves and groups. when I press CTRL Tab, the mixer contracts dramatically. Interestingly, the above behavior changed from one close of the mixer to the next open. Now, I'm seeing one type of strip at a time plus the master volume. So, you would see, the four staves of a string quartet and the click and the master volume. Curiously, there's also a strip called Strings in that and I have know idea where that strip comes from because there is no staff called strings in the score. CTRL tabbing gives you four effects buses plus Strings and the master volume. Even more curiously, I've reopened the mixer and now see the full monty: Violin I Violin II Viola Cello Click All of these have arrows immediately to the left of the names. Immediately below the click is a strip called Strings. This has no arrow. immediately below that is another strip called Vienna ensemble. this also has no arrow. Below that are four more strips called Effects bus 1-4. Each of these has an arrow to its left. The presence of the Vienna ensemble and Effect bus strips is not a constant. If I press any key to leave the mixer and reopen the mixer, the Vienna ensemble and effects buses will appear only every other time. when they do, they appear below the instrument strips and the strings strip. If I open the mixer and I see all the strips, the instrument and effect strips and then CTRL tab, the mixer will contract to show only the strings strip and the master volume. The next time I open the mixer, I will get the group strips plus the strings and master volume. CTRL tabbing will send me supposedly to the staff strips plus master volume. However, in all cases, pressing m will yield the message that there is more than one strip being shown. I can use enough vision to mute a staff with a mouse by hand but shouldn't have to do so. for the record, I have a special soundset developed by Vienna Symphonic Library for their Vienna Instruments Solo Strings collection. I find this very useful when writing a string quartet. I have no idea if this soundset has any impact on the mixer's behavior.
