[SI-LIST] why do one need PRBS Rx AND Tx?

Hi,
I'm looking at some data sheet of a cross point switch (of Mindspeed) which
i need for something i'm working on and there's a fucntion called PRBS
Tx/Rx. Now, I'm a newbie in this busyness, so I've tried to look at the net,
finding some material about this PRBS. I did find an exact definition at *
www.wikipedia.com* <http://gmail.google.com/gmail/www.wikipedia.com> and at
this link
*http://www.freelists.org/archives/si-list/03-2004/msg00289.html*<http://www.freelists.org/archives/si-list/03-2004/msg00289.html>
But my component has 2 PRBS built inside. One for Rx and one for Tx. I don't
understand why I need 2 components. The goal is to check the crosspoint and
so we need a PRBS to make a random pattern of signals, which get inside the
cross point switch to check its functionality (am i right here?). But why
should I need receive PRBS and transmit?
any ideas?
Thanks!
Roy
