Well, it's that time of the month and I have been setting up experiments and clicking the keys again to come up with my latest article. An apparently small inconsequential design change on a piece of equipment can make a significant difference to equipment performance. This month's Technical Tidbit discusses the specific example of simply adding small insulating rubber feet to an enclosure. Abstract: Small changes in the physical design of a product can have a large impact on ESD performance both in the lab and field. Data is presented for the case of a small switch box charged to 250 Volts showing the effect of small insulating rubber feet. The results show that seemingly inconsequential differences in physical design can have a major impact on equipment operation in the field. The link to the article is the picture of the experimental test setup at the bottom of the home page at http://emcesd.com . My site has a new feature, a link to my new podcast (free audio mp3 files on technical subjects). Just click on the picture of the microphone on my site, http://emcesd.com . I just posted episode 2 which is an interview on DFS (if you are into WiFi you need to know this), WEEE, RoHS, and other topics. Episode is about 12 minutes in length. Also, there is a new design position here in Silicon Valley listed on my jobs page. Doug -- ------------------------------------------------------- ___ _ Doug Smith \ / ) P.O.
