si-list:

For the last several years si-list has been configured to set a
subscriber to VACATION mode if the list received more than 40 bounces
from that particular subscriber in a given time span. Looking at the
si-list database today we see that out of 3849 subscribers in the
database, 670 are set to VACATION mode. Inspection of the members set to
vacation mode shows that most of them may be real old addresses that are
no longer valid (hence the large number of bounces and the automatic
change to VACATION mode).

We will be changing the list configuration slightly to 'clean-up' the
database (which will ultimately lead to faster list response). The list
config is being changed to unsubscribe users who generate more than 50
bounces. All 670 of those who are presently set to VACATION mode will be
reset to regular mode in order for the list manager software to
determine which addresses are currently active and which are really
dead. A side effect of this is that those who are actually on vacation
will receive mail in their absence.

For those not effected about all that you will notice is (hopefully)
faster response time from the list with regards to the delay encountered
from the time you post until you see your message go out to the list.
