Jayanta:
Linpar for Windows, available from Artech House Publishing for $400, is one
of the best available as a stand-alone field solver. I use it almost daily,
generate models from it, and blow away the competition with accurate
correlations to real-world measurements.
Many PCB fabrication house use Apsim as an in-house standard because they can
enter measured cross section data with TDR-based impedance measurements and
obtain corrective correlation (fudge) factors to match the real world. My
work with these same PCB fabricators shows a 1:1 correlation with the Appsim
basic program predictions. Combining this with the same cross section data
(made available to me) yields the same necessary (minor) correction factors.
My Linpar predictions are typically within 1% of the actual production
product mean values.
