Tom is correct in his statement that SMA's *should* mate non-destructively with APC3.5mm connectors. However, that is sometimes not the case in practice. The center pins in SMA connectors are typically stamped and therefore have a wider dimensional tolerance compared the center pins and sockets found in APC3.5mm connectors. If an out-of-spec SMA plug is mated to an APC3.5mm receptacle then the APC3.5mm connector can be permanently damaged. Anyone working with APC3.5mm and other precision RF connectors might find value in reviewing Chapter 2 "Care and Handling of Precision Connectors" in http://cp.literature.agilent.com/litweb/pdf/54753-97015.pdf Regards, jf -----Original Message----- From: Tom Dagostino [mailto:tom@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, April 16, 2003 8:24 PM To: modaochun@xxxxxxxxxx; si-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [SI-LIST] Re: What's difference between 3.5mm and SMA? Moore Mo SMA and 3.5 mm are dimensionally the same. The SMA uses Teflon dielectric and the 3.5mm uses air. The threads on a 3.5mm are of a tighter tolerance than a SMA. They should mate non-destructively.
