[SI-LIST] Re: Spectre S-parameter based PDN simulations

Suresh,

The first thing I would check is to see if your S-parameter data is
passive. If not, then you should go back to the source of that data and
ask for meaurement results that are passive and causal. If you can't get
better data, and the problem actually is non-passivity, then you can add
small series resistors at the ports of the S-parameter block. Add only
enough resistance to keep the noise down. The series resistor method is
not optimal, but will probably get you going with reasonable
simulations.

Subject: [SI-LIST] Spectre S-parameter based PDN simulations

Hello All,

I am trying to set up a PDN simulation in Cadence Spectre. The PDN
includes S-parameters of the package and some RLC models for the
decoupling caps (PCB,package) and VRM. I can use this network to do
AC/S-parameter analysis without any trouble but when I include this
network along with the die model in transient simulations, the voltage
node supplying the die blows up.

I have tried to look in the Cadence Sourcelink database and also tried
the various options available in the N-port properties dialog box to no
avail.

I was wondering if anyone out there has faced this problem with Spectre
and solved it? If yes, could you please give me some pointers on the
same.

Thanks very much.

Best Regards,

Suresh Subramaniam
