Hi Peter,
AppCAD is very much a free stand-alone tool that was not designed to interface
with commercial layout software.
It is very useful for quick calculations, e.g. you can choose a dielectric for
your PCB and put in (or vary) the geometric dimensions of your microstrip or
stripline, and AppCAD will calculate the impedance and a couple of other useful
parameters.
Most features of AppCAD are heavily targeted towards RF design engineers, i.e.
analog microwave designs.
I made this last statement because I do not work for Agilent's RF division,
therefore please do not consider this as the statement of an official
spokesperson for that division. For the purposes of this reply I am just a
satisfied AppCAD user.....
Best Regards,
Herbert.

Subject: [SI-LIST] Re: Software AppCAD
Hi, Nico
Thanks for your help. I want to extract trace parastic parameter from
Cadence's Allegro layout file. Then use these parameters to simulate SI with
HSPICE. As you mentioned, I have downloaded and installed AppCAD. But I
haven't found any interface for Allegro. So I don't think AppCAD can extract
trace from layout files. However, AppCad can caculate transmission line
characteristics impedance and reflection. Is that rignt ? Thanks.
Best regards,
Peter
