[SI-LIST] Slow-wave mode article

Howard,

Long time. This time, it is your article in 11/8/01 EDN. Your articles are
usually easy to understand, very coherent, not much reading-between-lines
and drive the concept home. I guess this one is an exception. Almost every
sentence is a subject/topic by itself. Honestly, I found it not easy to
understand. Would you give a bit more explanation on the 'physical
separation of electric and magnetic fields' and the 'complicated frequency
dependencies associated with the slow-wave effect'. Also, for the given
circuit, what is the 'absurdly slow velocity of signal propagation' number
and how come it is outside the range that 'permittivity of either the
insulator or the substrate alone would indicate'? Does the backside
metallization not contribute to some capacitance?

Thanks,
Sainath
