[SI-LIST] Re: S-Parameter Study

Hi Rajesh,

S-parameters provide a powerful and popular means for high-frequency modeling
and characterization of PCB interconnects.

For instance, the PCB traces (single-ended and differential), vias, and
connectors
can be modeled using various simulation tools such as SIwave, HFSS, ADS,
BoardSim, etc.

VNA can be also applied to perform actual measurements on PCB interconnects
and then compare/correlate the measured S-parameter data with simulation
results.

S-parameters (single-ended or differential) carry important information
related to impedance discontinuities, insertion loss, crosstalk, mode
conversion, etc.

There are many application notes written on S-parameters / Touchstone files.
The following
is one of my favorites:

"Guidelines for Robust S-parameter Model Development Application Note" (by
Cadence).

The Modern books on Signal or Power Integrity usually discuss applications of
S-parameters. For instance, refer to Greg Edlund, "Timing Analysis and
Simulation for Signal Integrity
Engineers", Pages 97-100.

As you study S-parameter concepts try to understand the syntax/format for
Touchstone files,
how to accurately generate S-parameter models via simulation and measurements,
how to view Touchstone files and to correctly interpret the data.

I hope you find this information helpful.

Kind Regards,

Subject: [SI-LIST] S-Parameter Study

Hi All,
I am new to the field of signal integrity. Please suggest study materials
for "S- Parameter" and its relationship with Printed circuit boards.

Thanks,
Rajesh
