There is a spice 3f5 for Linux. Try Google to find a download site.

Subject: [SI-LIST] Re: SPICE for LINUX

I can't help you with PSpice or HSpice, but I do have some suggestions
for doing SPICE simulations on Linux without paying $$$ for overpriced
software.

First off, if you want a nice simulator with a GUI front end, your
best bet is LTSpice. LTSpice is distributed by Linear Technologies
at:

http://www.linear.com/software/

Although it's a native Windoze app, it runs nicely under Wine, and
there is a good e-mail group devoted to supporting and extending it:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LTspice/

(You need to have a Yahoo account to access the group.)

If you want a Linux-native, open-source versions of SPICE, your best
bet is ngspice, which is a clean up of SPICE3f5 by some kind folks at
the University of Rome. They re-factored the old SPICE3f5 code, and
then provided it with a GNU-compliant configure/make system so that it
should compile on your system like any other Linux app. Also, new
analyses are being added, and many bugfixes have been incorporated.
Get it at:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/ngspice/

Ngspice does not incorporate a GUI; you interact with it using a CLI.
Make sure you run configure with readline enabled; this will help you
when typing long commands.

There are a couple of other free/open-source simulators. I have
written a Linux HOWTO devoted to doing analog simulation on Linux
using the gEDA suite in conjunction with these simulators. The HOWTO
has been submitted to the LDP. Meanwhile, you can download a draft
copy in .pdf format at:

http://www.brorson.com/gEDA/HOWTO/

I also have an on-line .html version at:

http://www.brorson.com/gEDA/SPICE/

Give the HOWTOs a read and you will have a good idea of what is
currently going on with F/OSS versions of SPICE.

Good luck!

Stuart
