Soap Box Time -> there is no such thing as a DB9. The 9 contact =
connector is an "E" size shell thus it would be a DE9. In the standard =
density connectors, the "A" size shell has 15 contacts, the "B" size has =
25, the "C" size has 37 and the "D" size has 50. Thus DA15, DB25, DC37 =
and DD50 as well as the DE9. (Looks like the "E" size was added after =
the original four sizes.) This is apparent from datasheets for =
traditional connector companies. To avoid some of the confusion, some =
manufacturers have switched to using numerical sizes.
My guess is that the confusion with DB9/DE9 came when computer makers =
replaced the DB25 with a DE9 but did not properly update their =
documentation (or users wouldn't change). But that's conjecture on my =
part.

Venu,
Are you asking how to connect from a serial interface that uses RJ45=20
connectors such as CISCO to a DB9 female connector to a PC? If so, the=20
problem is that there are no set standards for RS232 wiring assignments =
on=20
an RJ45 as there are for DB9 and DB25 connectors. I know of at least =
five=20
different configurations. About the only thing they tend to agree on is =
the ground pin assignment.
If you have an existing cable with a DB9 or DB25 connector, then you can =
use an ohmmeter to determine the connections. Otherwise, if you are =
making=20
a cable to go to existing equipment, you will need to obtain =
documentation=20
about that manufacturer's variation on the theme.
