[SI-LIST] Re: RJ45 interfacing with RS232

Venu,

Are you asking how to connect from a serial interface that uses RJ45
connectors such as CISCO to a DB9 female connector to a PC? If so, the
problem is that there are no set standards for RS232 wiring assignments on
an RJ45 as there are for DB9 and DB25 connectors. I know of at least five
different configurations. About the only thing they tend to agree on is
the ground pin assignment.

If you have an existing cable with a DB9 or DB25 connector, then you can
use an ohmmeter to determine the connections. Otherwise, if you are making
a cable to go to existing equipment, you will need to obtain documentation
about that manufacturer's variation on the theme.
